Want to meet some moo-tiful cows and goofy alpacas? Then you’re in the right place. Welcome to the Kids’ Farm.

The Kids’ Farm is a special part of the National Zoo in Washington, D.C. Here kids can get up close to farm animals. It is a hands-on experience for children ages 3-8. The Kids’ Farm gives children their first personal encounter with animals. They will also learn where food comes from.

The animals at the Kids’ Farm each have their own stories. You will find chickens named Arya, Ygritte, Zelda, and Midna. Aren’t those great names for the farm’s feathered ladies?

The Kids’ Farm also has miniature donkeys. Their names are George, Pat, Flash, and Giuseppe. Aren’t they adorable?

Orion and Cirrus are the two alpacas at the Kids’ Farm. They are known for their goofy smiles. Their wooly coats are so thick.

The cows at the Kids’ Farm are very popular. Willow is a Hereford and Magnolia is a Holstein. You will love them.

Last but not least, meet Fiesta and Fedora. These Nigerian dwarf goats were born on the same day in April 2015.

At the Caring Corral kids can groom an animal. Keepers supervise during select times. This interaction benefits the children and the animals. These social encounters enrich the animals’ lives. Training sessions give them toys, sounds, and smells. This motivates the animals to express their natural behaviors.

When you pat a cow’s head you are serving as living enrichment for the animals. It’s more than just an interaction. It’s a loving exchange.

The National Zoo is open year-round. It’s free but entry passes are required. The Kids’ Farm offers an enriching experience for all. You will create memories that last a lifetime. So come on and meet the animals. They’re waiting for you at the Kids’ Farm.
