Did the serene waters of Khu du lịch Văn Thánh always grace this corner of Ho Chi Minh City? No. In 1824, this area was known simply as Văn Thánh. Tổng trấn Gia Định Thành Lê Văn Duyệt commissioned the construction of a temple dedicated to Chu Công and Khổng Tử. It served as a place for scholars to cultivate their minds in this new land. Sadly, this original structure met its demise by the late 19th century. The very presence of the Văn Thánh temple gave its name to a nearby canal, the Rạch Văn Thánh. Later, a bridge spanning this waterway adopted the same name, Cầu Văn Thánh. Khu du lịch Văn Thánh itself emerged much later, in 1985, as a recreational area for city residents. It boasts 7.7 hectares, two of which are a tranquil lake. Imagine a picnic on the grassy banks, a gentle boat ride, or a friendly soccer match. This was the original vision for Khu du lịch Văn Thánh. By 1998, management shifted to the Saigon Tourist company. Their investment brought further enhancements, transforming the park into a popular attraction for both locals and tourists. They introduced cultural programs and culinary experiences representing Vietnam’s diverse regions, further solidifying Khu du lịch Văn Thánh’s appeal. Today, Khu du lịch Văn Thánh stands as a blend of history and recreation. It is a testament to Saigon’s evolving identity. The park now offers a resort-style swimming pool, tennis courts, and a playground. It’s a peaceful escape during the week, though weekends can be bustling. Come and discover the unique charm of Khu du lịch Văn Thánh. It is a destination you won’t want to miss.
