Imagine stepping back in time, to a place where life flowed at a slower pace, where the aroma of freshly baked bread mingled with the scent of blooming vineyards. Welcome to KG Strebersdorf, a quaint historic village that today sits within the 21st district of Vienna, Floridsdorf.

This small village, once independent, was absorbed into Vienna on January 1, 1911. Back in the old days, Strebersdorf was known for its straw mat makers. These mats were used to protect salt ships that arrived in Nussdorf and Vienna from damage while being pulled ashore. The village’s name, originally Strobelinstorf, evolved over time, reflecting these unique trades.

As you stroll through the village, imagine its history unfold before your eyes. Picture the bustling streets, the scent of grapes ripening in the vineyards, the playful laughter of children, and the rhythmic clacking of looms weaving straw into its most important trade. In the 16th and 17th centuries, Strebersdorf endured the threat of Turkish invaders during the siege of Vienna. The village suffered multiple fires and epidemics, yet its resilience remained undiminished.

One remarkable fact that might not be so obvious: during the Second World War, right on the edge of today’s KG Strebersdorf, a colonial police school was built. Imagine the stark contrast, the training ground for future colonial officers against the backdrop of this charming historic village.

Today, KG Strebersdorf is a tranquil retreat, a place where the ghosts of the past whisper tales of community, resilience, and a unique identity. The village serves as a stark reminder of the changes that have shaped Vienna, yet it also invites you to pause and reflect on the beauty of its past.
