Atop Sodermalm stands KF House a landmark with a captivating past. Originally built in 1909 by architect Gustaf Wickman it served as residential and office space. Its heavy brick architecture reflected the era. But KF House’s story doesn’t end there.

The Cooperative Union acquired the building. They expanded it dramatically. A striking marble facade replaced the original brick. This transformation marked the rise of Functionalism in Stockholm’s architecture. The ground floor housed a Special-Konsum store later becoming Kvickly and then Domus. KF’s iconic eternity symbol stood atop the Katarina elevator. This made KF House a symbol of Sweden’s optimism for the future. It was an early example of architecture as a marketing tool. Alongside the Slussen Carousel it represented Sweden’s progress.

The view from KF House is breathtaking. It has witnessed major historical events. From the recovery of the Vasa ship to the switch to right-hand traffic. It even overlooked the maiden voyage of the Katarina elevator itself. Countless sunsets have painted the sky above its rooftops.

Today KF House stands as A house a modern coworking space. It retains a respect for its history. Yet it embraces a fresh and new vision. The functionalist avant-garde style is evident in its design. The updated KF logo still proudly graces the building. But the stunning view remains unchanged a constant reminder of Stockholm’s evolution. KF House continues to stand tall. It embodies Stockholm’s past present and future.
