Located amidst the rolling vineyards and picturesque landscapes of the Rems Valley, Kernen im Remstal whispers tales of two towns united by a shared destiny. Kernen im Remstal emerged in 1975 from the union of Stetten im Remstal and Rommelshausen. Initially called Stetten-Rommelshausen, the community later voted to rename it after the prominent hill, Kernen. This hill, the highest point in the municipality, symbolizes the unity and shared identity of the two towns. Rommelshausen, with its convenient access to the Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt–Aalen railway line since 1861, flourished as an industrial and residential hub. Its story begins in 1146, mentioned as “Rumoldeshusen” in a donation document. Stetten im Remstal, nestled amidst stunning scenery, became a popular destination for recreation and wine enthusiasts. Its first documented mention dates back to 1241, related to the sale of a farm. Kernen im Remstal is more than just a geographical location. It is a testament to the harmonious blend of tradition and progress. Rommelshausen showcases urban development, while Stetten cherishes its idyllic wine village charm. The municipality’s rich history is etched in its landmarks. Stetten’s castle, the Roman Villa Rustica, and the Glockenkelter stand as silent witnesses to the passage of time. Other historical structures, such as the Old Town Hall in Stetten, the Y-Burg ruins, and the Museum beneath it, further enrich the tapestry of Kernen im Remstal’s heritage. Even the municipality’s coat of arms tells a story. The six diamonds, three blue and three black on a yellow field, are derived from the coat of arms of Stetten im Remstal. These diamonds are a nod to the House of Teck, reflecting a time when both towns were under its rule. Kernen im Remstal invites you to explore its captivating narrative. Stroll through the vineyards, discover historical gems, and immerse yourself in the spirit of two communities interwoven into a single, remarkable entity.
