Hidden amidst the lush greenery of Prague 7 – Troja, along the tranquil Trojská street, lies Kazanka. Kazanka is more than just a homestead. It’s a testament to time, a survivor of the Thirty Year’s War, bearing the marks of reconstructions from the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, it stands proudly as a protected cultural monument of the Czech Republic. Kazanka began its life as a vineyard, later transforming into the structure we see now. While the current villa dates back to 1989, the land holds memories of centuries past. The story of the modern Kazanka begins in 1985, driven by the need to house foreign embassies. The Services Management of the Diplomatic Corps envisioned a villa that would blend representational spaces with comfortable private quarters. This vision took shape on parcel number 321, in the cadastral area of Troja. The project was a collaborative effort. The Regional Project Institute Prague, under the leadership of architect Zdeněk Kuna, joined forces with architect František Řezáč and his team from studio H17 in Mladá Boleslav. Together, they brought Kazanka to life. The building permit was granted in January 1986, and construction proceeded smoothly. The villa, with its three above-ground floors and one underground level, was completed and ready for use in 1989. It was designed to meet the specific needs of an embassy, offering social spaces for official functions, private living areas for the head of the embassy and their family, staff quarters, and even a garage. A landscaped garden, complete with a swimming pool, provided a serene retreat. Since 1990, Kazanka has served as the residence of the Embassy of the Republic of Tunisia. The Diplomatic Service, successor to the Services Management of the Diplomatic Corps, took over the management of this state property in 1993. Kazanka stands not just as a beautiful villa, but as a symbol of international diplomacy and a tangible link to Prague’s rich architectural heritage.
