Seven centuries ago Pellendorf quietly existed. A noblewoman Bertha gifted land to Göttweig Abbey. This act is recorded before 1091. The exact date remains a mystery. Pellendorf’s name appeared in various spellings. Pellindorf Pellindorph and Pöllndorf are examples.

Pellendorf’s history is woven with tales of hardship and resilience. The 15th century saw devastating destruction. Constant attacks from the east left the village deserted. The First Turkish Siege in 1529 brought new life. Italian settlers rebuilt Pellendorf. Their contributions were crucial to its recovery.

However increased taxes changed things. The influx of Italian settlers stopped. German farmers replaced them. By the mid-16th century only eleven farms remained in Italian hands. Imagine those families. Their lives bound to the land. The struggle for survival. Their heritage interwoven with Pellendorf’s fabric.

Pellendorf’s story continues. The Second Turkish Siege caused devastation. Noble families vied for control of Pellendorf. Ownership changed hands many times. Anton Dreher of Schwechat Brewery eventually acquired it. The Dreher family’s legacy still lives on in this charming village.

Pellendorf’s transformation is remarkable. It became part of Greater Vienna in 1938. Later it was rejoined to Himberg. This administrative change ended its independent existence.

Today Pellendorf proudly displays its past. Its monuments whisper of its rich history. The Leonhardkapelle stands as a testament to faith. The Mariensäule a Pietà stands near the cemetery. The village’s unique identity remains strong. Its history etched in stone and memory.
