Kaple Božího Milosrdenství

“This chapel has seen quite a transformation,” the old woman muttered, adjusting her shawl as she gazed at the Kaple Božího Milosrdenství. “Used to be dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk, you know.” We find ourselves standing before the Kaple Božího Milosrdenství, a modest but charming chapel nestled amidst modern homes in the village of Minkovice. Don’t let its unassuming size fool you, for this chapel holds a story of resilience and rebirth. Built in the 19th century, the chapel originally served as a place of worship dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk. However, the ravages of time and neglect took their toll. After World War II, the chapel fell into disrepair, its future uncertain. It seemed destined for demolition, mirroring the fate of a similar Baroque chapel in nearby Šimonovice. But fate, it seemed, had other plans. In the 1990s, efforts to save the chapel began, though they were initially met with challenges. It wouldn’t be until 2010, that a renewed collaboration between the parish of Dlouhý Most and the municipality of Šimonovice breathed new life into the project. Thanks to a government grant and the dedication of the community, the Kaple Božího Milosrdenství underwent a remarkable transformation between 2014 and 2015. A new roof, windows, and doors were installed, and the surrounding area was landscaped. The chapel’s renovation symbolized more than just a physical restoration. It represented the community’s commitment to preserving its heritage and the enduring power of faith. In 2016, the chapel was rededicated to Divine Mercy, a testament to its newfound purpose. Today, the Kaple Božího Milosrdenství stands as a beacon of hope. It reminds us that even in the face of adversity and uncertainty, the spirit of renewal and the power of community can prevail.
