Kamýk, a name whispered in hushed tones, a place etched into the fabric of Prague’s history. This is not a hilltop fort like Vyšehrad, nor a grand palace like Prague Castle. It is a hidden gem, a forgotten piece of Prague’s urban development, and a place intertwined with the city’s past. The name Kamýk, derived from the nearby hill and forest, was given to this area in 1988. Before then, it was a collection of smaller suburbs, each with its own character and story. The current area of Kamýk encompasses most of the Lhotka settlement, as well as parts of Modřany. Today, it’s a part of the Prague 12 district. This piece of Prague is a testament to the city’s constant evolution, a place where the past and the present coexist.
