Hear the rumble A familiar sound echoes through the air. It’s the jingle of the Tatra T3 tram. A Prague icon. This isn’t just any T3. This is Bistro Točna a unique establishment. It’s a decommissioned T3 tram transformed into a charming bistro. This T3 sits proudly at the Dlabačov tram loop.

The Dlabačov loop near Strahov Stadium has a rich history. Built in 1948 it once bustled with activity. Thousands streamed through this very spot. They were heading to the massive Strahov Stadium. It once held a staggering 250000 spectators. To manage the crowds a footbridge was built. It allowed people to cross the tracks safely. As the stadium fell into disrepair so did the tram stop. The loop fell silent. Yet in 2022 it was reborn. The loop tracks and footbridge were lovingly restored. The bridge’s railings are back to their original red.

The Tatra T3 tram itself is a marvel. It first ran in Prague on November 21 1962. This was a remarkably modern design for its time. It became a successful export. These trams ran throughout the Eastern Bloc. The T3 replaced the T2 model. It was designed for the same capacity but simpler to produce. To achieve this thinner walls were used. Plastic seats replaced the artificial leather ones. In its heyday over 1000 T3 trams crisscrossed Prague. Now though you will only find them in the nostalgic line 23.

Step inside Bistro Točna. Imagine sitting at one of the six fixed tables. The original tram seats are your chairs. You can even sit in the driver’s seat. Take in the control panel. Enjoy craft beer homemade soft drinks and snacks. It is open weekends from 1000 to 2100. While you sip your drink you can watch the historic tram line 42 pass every 40 minutes.

Remember this isn’t just a tram It is a living piece of Prague’s history. It’s a testament to the city’s resilience and its love for its heritage. So raise a glass to the T3 tram. To its past its present and its enduring legacy in Prague.
