The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a significant religious group globally. In Sweden its official name is Jesu Kristi Kyrka av Sista Dagars Heliga. Many outside the faith call members Mormons a term some members prefer not to use. Instead they prefer to be called members of the Church of Jesus Christ.

The church’s teachings emphasize family life. Members abstain from alcohol tobacco and other substances. These beliefs are rooted in scriptures like the Book of Mormon which Joseph Smith claimed to have translated from golden plates. Smith is considered a prophet by the Latter-day Saints.

The Church faced opposition in its early years. Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum were murdered in 1844 leading to a succession crisis. Brigham Young eventually led the majority of the church to Salt Lake City Utah.

The Church in Sweden has about 9500 members organized into 40 congregations and 4 stakes. The first temple in Scandinavia was dedicated in Vasterhaninge in 1985. This temple is currently closed for extensive renovations.

The Stockholm Sweden Temple serves members across Scandinavia. Its construction and dedication were met with local enthusiasm. An incident in 1988 saw a bomb detonated outside causing minor damage. This temple is not only a place of worship but also a center for genealogical research.

The church actively participates in humanitarian work offering aid to disaster-stricken areas. Swedish missionaries serve internationally while missionaries from other countries work in Sweden. This global network is a testament to the Church’s worldwide reach and commitment to its teachings.
