Did the year 1974 hold a special significance for Brühl? It certainly did for the Islamisches Gemeindezentrum Brühl. This year marked its very beginning, a seed planted for a dream that would take decades to fully blossom. Here we stand, before the Islamisches Gemeindezentrum Brühl, a testament to the dedication and perseverance of a community. Originally, the community gathered in a house on Schützenstraße. Later, they moved to Clemens-August-Straße and then to a building on “An der Synagoge” street. Finally, at the turn of the millennium, they found a more permanent home on Bergerstraße in Brühl-Ost. The Islamisches Gemeindezentrum Brühl, also known as the Brühl Mosque, has become a vital hub for around 550 members. It serves as a place of worship, education, and community gathering. Five times a day, the faithful gather for prayer. Fridays hold a special significance with the congregational Friday prayer. The center also provides religious education for children in Turkish, Arabic, and German. The Islamisches Gemeindezentrum Brühl isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a vibrant center for various activities. Children can enjoy reading, playing table tennis, or billiards. The community actively promotes intercultural and interreligious understanding through various events and initiatives. This beautiful structure, costing around four million euros, was entirely funded by donations, a true symbol of community effort. The building itself is impressive, spanning over 3000 square meters across three levels. Two grand prayer halls welcome men and women. There are also dedicated classrooms, event spaces, and kitchens. This four-million-euro project stands as a testament to 50 years of growth and dedication. The Islamisches Gemeindezentrum Brühl has truly blossomed into a cornerstone of the community, enriching Brühl and fostering peaceful coexistence.
