International Plaza and Bay Street opened its doors on September 14 2001. It was a challenging time. The September 11th attacks had happened just days before. Despite this the mall’s success story began. It was originally planned in 1986. It replaced an 18-hole golf course. The vision was ambitious. This area was transformed into a sprawling retail paradise.

The mall boasts three anchor stores: Neiman Marcus Nordstrom and Dillard’s. These are accompanied by over 200 specialty stores. From high-end boutiques to more casual options. There is something for everyone here. Many of the shops were new to Tampa when the Plaza opened. The Cheesecake Factory a beloved eatery even made its Tampa debut here. It’s an impressive 11000 square feet.

But International Plaza is more than just shopping. It’s a complete experience. Bay Street the adjacent open-air section offers a vibrant atmosphere. It’s a mix of restaurants and boutiques. Enjoy a meal at The Capital Grille. Try a slice of cheesecake at The Cheesecake Factory. The Renaissance Hotel a convenient luxury hotel is directly connected to Bay Street. It’s a luxurious stay right in the heart of the action.

The mall has seen some changes over the years. Lord & Taylor an original anchor store closed in 2004. It was replaced by Robb & Stucky a furniture store. That store eventually closed and was replaced by LifeTime Athletic. Now a Dick’s House of Sport has opened. It replaced the LifeTime Fitness facility that had recently closed. The mall is constantly evolving meeting the ever changing needs of its shoppers.

International Plaza and Bay Street is more than just a shopping mall. It’s a symbol of Tampa’s growth and prosperity. It’s a place where you can indulge in retail therapy. You can enjoy fine dining.
