Curiosity sparked, we stand before the Instituto Espírita Cidadão do Mundo. This isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to compassion and spiritual growth, nestled in the bustling heart of São Paulo. The Instituto Espírita Cidadão do Mundo began its work on the streets, even before it had a home or a name. Laerson Cândido de Oliveira, a medium, and a group of dedicated individuals, provided soup and healing to the homeless and needy. These early acts of charity, fueled by the teachings of Jesus, formed the foundation of the Instituto Espírita Cidadão do Mundo. The spirit of Dr. Adolfo guided their healing work in these early days. As the number of those they helped grew, so did the need for a more permanent space. Guided by the advice of Francisco Cândido Xavier, the group established a fixed location. They named it “Instituto Espírita Cidadão do Mundo.” The Instituto Espírita Cidadão do Mundo found its home in the Butantã neighborhood of São Paulo. It later expanded its services to Peruíbe, also in São Paulo. For a time, the Instituto Espírita Cidadão do Mundo also served the community of Heliópolis. At the heart of the Instituto Espírita Cidadão do Mundo’s mission are charity and study. The teachings of Allan Kardec, as outlined in key Spiritist works, provide the philosophical framework for their efforts. These works include “The Spirits’ Book,” “The Book on Mediums,” “The Gospel According to Spiritism,” “Heaven and Hell,” and “Genesis.” The Instituto Espírita Cidadão do Mundo continues its work of charity and spiritual guidance today. It stands as a beacon of hope and healing in the vibrant city of São Paulo.
