Founded in 1923 amidst the food shortages of the Weimar Republic, its first director, Margarete von Wrangell, was a pioneer. She wasn’t just a brilliant scientist focused on phosphate and its vital role in plant growth. She was also the first female professor in Germany, a testament to her unwavering determination. The Institut für Pflanzenernährung wasn’t just a lab. Then came Horst Marschner in 1976, a man with a global vision.
