Here stands InnoDom Cologne. This is no ordinary building. It is a hub where innovation meets entrepreneurship. InnoDom Cologne is a vital part of Cologne’s start-up ecosystem. It sits right on the University of Cologne campus.
Opened in June 2023, the five-story InnoDom Cologne offers optimal conditions for start-ups. It brings together science, research, and creative business minds. Generous donations made this lighthouse project possible. The Kölner Universitätsstiftung, founded in 2019, spearheaded its construction.
Inside InnoDom Cologne, you will find 164 coworking spaces. These spaces include open offices and private homebases. Homebases can accommodate up to six workstations. Gateway ESC, the University of Cologne’s start-up service, utilizes some of these coworking spaces. This creates a lively community and promotes collaboration.
But InnoDom Cologne offers more than just workspaces. Coworkers enjoy a sensational view of greenery. There are also two-story rooms for events and relaxation. These are the yellow and blue Like-it rooms. Three roof terraces provide additional space to relax. Each floor has tea kitchens and the cafeteria Gateway Coffee. Catering is available for events. High-speed internet and tech support complete the package.
Kadawittfeldarchitektur designed the building. Their dynamic architecture integrates harmoniously into the surroundings. Project Manager Linda Leers emphasized connecting with the neighborhood. The two-story LIKE IT rooms with panoramic glazing help achieve this. They showcase the unconventional start-up character of this Cologne think tank.
Lightnet’s lighting design earned the German Lighting Design Award 2024. Matric R3 light lines run throughout the building. These direct-emitting lights create an inviting atmosphere. The open technology, installed under concrete ceilings, adds industrial elegance. Lucille desk luminaires provide optimum lighting in open-plan areas.
Dorette Faulhaber from arens faulhaber lichtplaner kept the design simple. The team planning was uncomplicated and decisive. The result is an inviting and creative environment for courageous founders. Ulrike Kleren from Lightnet is delighted with the award. She notes that it is the result of many years of positive collaboration.
InnoDom Cologne embodies the spirit of collaboration. It encourages the transfer of scientific knowledge. This facilitates new services and products. Start-ups and service providers work together under one roof. This creates a unique synergy within InnoDom Cologne. Coaches and mentors advise founders connected to Gateway ESC. They receive support in applying for funding. Gateway ESC also connects them with partner companies and investors.
So, as you stand before InnoDom Cologne, remember it is more than just a building. It’s a place where ideas ignite, businesses grow, and the future of Cologne takes shape. It is creative space for creative ideas.
