Gazing up at Incarnation Catholic Church, one might sense the echoes of its humble beginnings. In 1962, it started as a small mission of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. A simple trailer, once used at MacDill Air Force Base, served as its first home, accommodating a mere 60 souls. Incarnation Catholic Church was officially founded in 1963, right here at its current location at the corner of W Hillsborough Avenue and Webb Road. Over the years, the congregation blossomed. They outgrew the trailer and moved into a larger provisional church built for 500. In 1987, the present sanctuary rose, a testament to the growing community, now capable of holding 1,200 worshippers. Incarnation Catholic Church isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a beacon of education and community outreach. In 1964, the church established Incarnation Catholic School, initially catering to 120 first and second graders. Today, the school serves over 600 students from kindergarten through eighth grade. Beyond its educational mission, Incarnation Catholic Church actively supports those in need within the Town ‘N Country community. They help with rent and utility bills, offer food and clothing, and connect people with community agencies. Incarnation Catholic Church extends its hand beyond its immediate surroundings. It supports broader initiatives like the Daystar program, Alpha for single pregnant women, and Metropolitan Ministries. The church has also responded to international crises, sending aid to Nicaragua and Honduras after the devastation of Hurricane Mitch. Incarnation Catholic Church also offers a rich spiritual life with various services and programs, including daily and weekend Masses in both English and Spanish. The Solemn Easter Liturgy is a particularly notable event. It is a beautiful ceremony filled with symbolism, marking the passage from darkness to light. Incarnation Catholic Church continues to grow and evolve. In the early 2000s, Incarnation Catholic School introduced PreK programs, expanding its educational reach to younger children. More recently, the church transitioned to diocesan leadership. It revitalized its sports program, focusing on soccer, basketball, and track. It prioritized safety with a full-time security officer and upgraded its systems with FACTS. The church also dedicated a new STREAM lab and made significant updates to its curriculum. The ongoing restoration of its buildings signifies Incarnation Catholic Church’s commitment to its community, promising a vibrant future for generations to come.
