Did you know that the IHTT ensures safer travels for Hondurans? The Instituto Hondureño del Transporte Terrestre plays a vital role in Honduras. It is all about keeping people safe on the roads.

The IHTT checks buses before major holidays. One such holiday is Semana Santa. This ensures buses are safe for travel. The IHTT wants everyone to have a secure trip. They check the physical condition of the vehicles. They also do technical and mechanical checks. These checks are for public transport. This includes urban and interurban buses plus taxis. Even special transport for students gets checked by IHTT.

The IHTT aims to inspect thousands of buses. In 2024, they checked over 5600 buses. The goal is to check even more this year. The IHTT wants to reach 6000 buses inspected. These inspections happen in major cities. Tegucigalpa is one such city. San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba also participate.

These inspections look for several key things. The buses must be in good mechanical condition. They need a certificate of operation. A revision ticket is a must. The bus needs a fire extinguisher. Safety triangles are also required.

Ramón Ochoa is a manager at the IHTT. He says checks have prevented deaths. These checks happen during peak travel times. Semana Santa and Feriado Morazánico are examples. However, not everyone agrees with this assessment. Some reports contradict IHTT claims.

The IHTT also deals with reckless drivers. Urban transport drivers can be quite reckless. Only motorcyclists are more reckless than them. This bad driving causes many accidents. The IHTT knows better education is vital. They also promote effective controls. Checks mainly happen during busy periods. This leaves gaps in supervision. Regular checks are needed. Random drug tests would help too.

José Adonay Hernández directs traffic safety. He says reckless driving is a big problem. Drunk driving is too common. Tougher laws are needed. Constant monitoring is essential. Random drug tests could save lives. The IHTT contributes to safer roads. They are part of a larger safety commission. This commission aims to prevent accidents. They want to make sure buses are in top condition. They provide safe and quality service. The IHTT offers permits after checks. This permit allows buses to travel outside their normal zone. This is only valid during vacation days.

The IHTT is working hard to keep Hondurans safe. They inspect buses. They promote better driving. They support tougher laws. The Instituto Hondureño del Transporte Terrestre strives for safer travels for everyone.
