Remember February 8, 2009. This marks the day Igreja Prebesteriana Conservadora do Riacho Grande was organized. It began at Rua Jose number 4 in Riacho Grande. This is in São Bernardo do Campo SP.
Igreja Prebesteriana Conservadora do Riacho Grande practices teaching the word to the Riacho Grande area. But its roots go back further. The Igreja Presbiteriana Conservadora do Brasil has a longer history. It started on February 11 1940.
This was after internal debates about doctrine. The 2nd Independent Presbyterian Church of São Paulo broke away. It became the Igreja Presbiteriana Conservadora de São Paulo. The issue was mainly about eternal punishment.
A manifesto was published. It emphasized the importance of doctrine. It stated that the new church valued a strong adherence to doctrine. It wasn’t just about intellectual acceptance. They recognized the need to defend their beliefs. This was essential for establishing their religious life. They wanted to be known as conservative Presbyterians.
The mission of Igreja Prebesteriana Conservadora do Riacho Grande is clear. It involves practicing love. This is done through acts of mercy. They focus on teaching. They also proclaim the kingdom of Christ in the Riacho Grande area.
The Conservative Presbyterian Church in Brazil separated. This was from the Independent Presbyterian Church of Brazil. The split occurred in 1940. It involved churches and members. A key reason was a decision in 1938. The IPIB General Assembly wanted a new confession of faith. This would replace the Westminster Confession of Faith. It would also be tolerant of annihilationism. Those against the change formed the IPCB. Today it is the third-largest reformed denomination in Brazil. It preserves traditional Presbyterian positions.
In 1938, a conflict arose. The IPIB Synod recognized different views on annihilationism. It appointed a commission. This commission would draft a new confession. This would replace the Westminster Confession. The 2nd Independent Presbyterian Church of São Paulo disagreed. It left the denomination.
Initially, the denomination had 11 churches. It also had 5 pastors or ministers. A seminary was organized in 1954. The church began to grow. Some churches work among indigenous people.
The Igreja Prebesteriana Conservadora do Brasil subscribes to key documents. These are the Apostles Creed. Also, the Westminster Confession of Faith. Plus the Westminster Shorter Catechism. And the Westminster Larger Catechism.
The IPCB does not ordain women. Only men can be pastors elders and deacons. It opposes clapping during liturgy.
The church publishes a newspaper. It is called the Conservative Presbyterian. The seminary in San Bernando de Campo was founded in 1953. Since 1983, the Missionary Department has been planning new churches. They are underway in various Brazilian cities.
In 2018, the IPCB had 4371 members. This shows a growth of 22.16% from 2006. It consisted of 92 ecclesiastical work fronts. These had church or congregation status. The denomination is present in 11 Brazilian states.
So here we are at Igreja Prebesteriana Conservadora do Riacho Grande a beacon of faith. Its story reflects a deep commitment to conservative Presbyterian values. Its ongoing mission makes it a vital part of this community.
