This church isn’t just bricks and mortar. It’s a living testament to faith. Established on August 17 1968 it was born from the heart of Sao Paulo’s vibrant community. The decree creating the parish was read by Dom Bruno Maldaner. He was the auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Sao Paulo. The land was carved from the parish of Sant’Ana de Itaquera.
Father Santiago Lumbreras was the first priest. He served until 1973. He returned to his native Chile just before the military coup. Each priest who followed left their mark. Father Pepe a Spaniard known for his hard work even cleaned the church himself. Father Elias Pereira de Melo a beloved figure was deeply involved in the community. He established numerous groups. He was also the driving force behind the construction of the first parish hall. His legacy lives on.
The current church building is a result of dedicated effort. Father Jose Antonio da Silva began its construction. He laid the foundation for the beautiful structure we see today. He also streamlined all the documentation. Father Jalmir Matias de Oliveira continued the work. He fostered unity within the parish. He organized events like the EJC and ECC. He also oversaw renovations and new constructions.
