Doesn’t it feel special to be here at Igreja Cristã da Granja Viana? It is a true beacon of faith. Today we will delve into a story of devotion and community.

Igreja Cristã da Granja Viana stands as a testament to faith. It represents a gathering place. Here people find solace and spiritual connection.

The story of Igreja Cristã da Granja Viana intertwines with the broader narrative of religious expression in São Paulo. It reflects the diverse spiritual landscape of this sprawling metropolis. São Paulo is a city of over 12 million people. It is a melting pot of cultures and beliefs.

The roots of religious communities like Igreja Cristã da Granja Viana often lie in the efforts of dedicated individuals. They often seek to establish places of worship and fellowship. These places help meet the spiritual needs of the growing population.

In 1997, a significant event took place in the religious community of São Paulo. On May 13th, at the Santuário Nossa Senhora de Fátima, the arrival of the first mission of the Comunidade Católica Shalom in the Southeast region of Brazil was formalized. Dom Fernando Figueiredo presided over the celebration. Padre Marcelo Rossi, Padre Marcelinho, and Padre Júlio concelebrated.

The Comunidade Católica Shalom has a rich history in São Paulo. It began with the Diocese of Santo Amaro. Bishop Dom Fernando Antônio Figueiredo expressed interest in learning about the community. This led to a meeting with Moysés Azevedo, the founder of Comunidade Shalom.

Celeste Ribas shared her experiences as a missionary in Fortaleza, Natal, and Salvador. Dom Fernando was captivated. He asked what was needed to establish a mission of Comunidade Shalom in the Diocese of Santo Amaro. Celeste Ribas replied simply, “Just ask.”

The first mission faced challenges. The Casa de Retiro became the Centro de Espiritualidade Santa Teresa or Casa Contemplativa. Missionaries awaited provisions. Padre Ângelo Moroni welcomed them.

In 1996, a group of young people sought a place for weekly meetings. Padre José Simões offered the capela do Santíssimo at Paróquia São Pedro Apóstolo. Celeste Ribas shared the Carisma Shalom. This inspired the youth.

In January 1997, they traveled to Fortaleza for a Retiro de Líderes. They experienced the Carisma Shalom. Upon returning, some began the Vocacional Shalom journey.

In February, Moysés and Dom Fernando Figueiredo agreed on the community’s arrival in São Paulo. The Casa de Retiros on Rua José Roschel Rodrigues became the first mission in Southeast Brazil. It was renamed Casa Contemplativa São José.

This marked a new chapter. On May 13, 1997, the Comunidade Católica Shalom’s mission was formalized. In the second half of 1997, five individuals joined the Comunidade Aliança.

These pioneers traveled through São Paulo traffic. They journeyed to experience the Carisma. Their dedication was immense. Others joined monthly vocational meetings. By 1998, the first postulants were sent on missions.

The Comunidade de Aliança continued to grow. The first Casa Apostólica opened in 1999 near Largo 13 de Maio. Donations poured in. In 2000, more individuals joined the Comunidade de Aliança.

The story of Igreja Cristã da Granja Viana, though separate from this history, shares a common thread. It is a commitment to faith and community. It stands as a symbol of spiritual life. It enriches the city’s cultural tapestry. It is an invitation to find peace. It is a beacon of hope. It is the place we stand now.
