Ready to explore a place of faith? The Iglesia Evangelica Hispana stands before you. This church is more than just a building. It’s a vibrant community with a rich history.

The Iglesia Evangelica Hispana has a fascinating origin story. It began with a connection to Danforth Gospel Temple. Pastor Pablo Sorensen and his wife Dorothy welcomed a growing number of Hispanic immigrants. They sought to assist these newcomers. This led to renting a building on Donlands Avenue. Later they moved to St. Matthew’s United Church.

In 1977 the Sorensens were called to another ministry. Garry Fricker and his wife Jean took over until 1980. Pastor Fricker contacted Eusebio Perez and his wife Carmina. The Perez family had emigrated from Cuba to the United States.

In April 1980 the Perez family arrived in Toronto. By August 1980 they became the pastors of the Iglesia Evangelica Hispana. It was now officially recognized. November 14 1982 was a special day. The building at 804 Broadview Avenue was dedicated to the Lord. Since then the church celebrates its anniversary every November. A parade of flags represents the 23 countries within the congregation.

For 42 years Eusebio and Carmina Perez served the Iglesia Evangelica Hispana. They retired in June 2022. From July 2022 to February 2023 Otoniel Perez and his wife Liz served as interim pastors. On March 5 2023 Ervis and Tamara Duardo were chosen as the lead pastors.

Today the Iglesia Evangelica Hispana continues its mission. It’s part of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada. The church represents over 23 nations in Toronto. Its mission focuses on connecting equipping and serving. They aim to reach those in need. They offer a message of salvation and hope.

The Iglesia Evangelica Hispana believes in one God. This God exists eternally in three persons. They are the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit. They believe the Bible is God’s written revelation. Salvation is available through repentance and acceptance of Jesus Christ.

The church also holds specific beliefs about marriage. They believe it’s a lifelong relationship between a man and a woman. Divorce is only permissible in cases of marital infidelity. They also believe in God’s design for humanity. This design includes two distinct sexes. Tithing is practiced as a means of supporting the church.

The Iglesia Evangelica Hispana stands as a testament to faith community and service. Its history reflects dedication and a passion for spreading hope.
