“Is this the church that started in someone’s driveway?” a curious voice whispered. That’s the Iglesia Evangélica Bautista Renacer you’re looking at. It’s amazing to think it all began so humbly. Pastor Marcos Melendez, originally from Campamento, started it all. In June 2007, he began holding monthly services here in Tegucigalpa. It wasn’t until December 2009 that things became more permanent. The Jacobo family moved to the city and continued Pastor Marcos’s work. They held those early services and discipleship programs from February to March 2010. The church officially opened its doors in August of that year. By August of the following year, the Iglesia Evangélica Bautista Renacer had its official charter and a rather unusual meeting place. Imagine, services were held right in the driveway of a house near the local health center! The church’s journey didn’t end there. They relocated near the La Libertad hardware store in 2013, staying there until 2014. After that, they moved again and finally purchased the land where the Iglesia Evangélica Bautista Renacer stands today. The new building began to take shape, a true testament to their dedication. During this time, the Jacobo family moved back to the United States. Pastor Osman Gutiérrez, from the Iglesia Bautista Capital in Tegucigalpa, stepped in to lead services every Sunday. He did this for two years until 2022, when Pastor Bill and his family arrived in Campamento. Their story is a powerful reminder that faith can flourish anywhere, even in a driveway!
