Founded in 1982 Iglesia Cristiana la Nueva Jerusalem opened its doors in 1985. This vibrant church on Kingsway Road in Brandon has a rich history. Pastor Elvin Gonzalez has led the congregation since its inception. He earned theology degrees from the University of Puerto Rico and the International Seminary near Orlando. His wife Miriam also a minister teaches at the church. Their family embodies the church’s strong sense of community.

The church boasts a large and active membership. Around 150 members mostly young and middle-aged families attend regularly. They participate in various programs. These include Sunday school youth ministry women’s ministry a drama group and a music ministry. Their faith is expressed through action too. The church sponsors a mission in Ruskin providing clothing and food. They plan an outreach in Plant City. A new education facility including a daycare center is under construction. The church also supports a missionary in Costa Rica and collects food for migrants.

Associate Pastor Victor Cruz adds to the church’s strength. A Tampa native and third-generation Floridian he’s been in the ministry for 35 years. He holds an honorary doctorate of divinity. Pastor Cruz will lead the new English-speaking services beginning in August. The church is non-denominational and full gospel. Their recent sermon focused on “The Power of the Resurrection”. It explored Christ’s sacrifice and its impact on believers’ lives. This message speaks to the church’s core belief in the transformative power of faith.
