“A dream come true,” someone might have said when the Iglesia Adventista Tepeyac opened its doors. But this church isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a testament to the power of community and the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s commitment to serving all people. You see, the Iglesia Adventista Tepeyac is no ordinary church. It’s part of a larger initiative by the Adventist Church to reach out to the Chinese community in Honduras. In early March 2020, the Adventist Church in Honduras inaugurated its first community center for the Chinese community, right here in Tegucigalpa. This center, located in the same office building as the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), aims to provide services and support to the thousands of Chinese families living in Honduras. The center offers a variety of services, including Mandarin classes to help younger generations reconnect with their heritage. It also provides Spanish classes, health and cooking classes, legal assistance, and recreational activities. The Iglesia Adventista Tepeyac and the Chinese Community Center stand as symbols of cultural exchange and inclusivity. They represent the church’s commitment to embracing diversity and fostering understanding across cultures.
