Do you see that elegant, two-story, plastered building with the gabled roof across the street? That’s the Idelzak House, named after its original owner, and it’s one of the first buildings erected on Allenby Street. It was designed by Alexander Levy in the early 1920s and stands as a fascinating relic from a different time.

The Idelzak House has a special story to tell. For decades, it silently witnessed the city’s evolution, the bustling streets filled with the sounds of change and progress. The house itself, however, wasn’t well-maintained for many years and slowly fell into disrepair. In the 1970s, it was evacuated and left to stand empty, forgotten until renovation efforts began in the 2010s.

The restoration process was extensive and involved removing a later 1930s addition that had blocked the original facades. This move allowed the beauty of the original horseshoe windows and ornaments to be revealed once again. It also opened up the street sidewalk, creating a small piazza on busy Allenby Street.

Today, the Idelzak House stands proudly along with other historic buildings in the area, contributing to the captivating mix of architectural styles that defines Tel Aviv’s vibrant urban landscape. You can still see traces of the past in its restored facades, reminding us of the historical significance of this remarkable building.
