In 1917, IBM Canada started its journey on Campbell Avenue in Toronto’s west end. Fast forward to the bustling year of 1951, and IBM Canada’s presence expanded significantly. They opened a manufacturing plant and head office at 844 Don Mills Road. This sprawling complex, designed by Clare MacLean, became a landmark. Another structure arose at 1150 Eglinton Avenue East in 1967, further solidifying IBM Canada’s footprint. The Don Mills location initially served as both the manufacturing hub and the head office. Later, the 1967 building took over as the main head office and software research lab. IBM Canada’s journey didn’t end there. The company eventually moved its head office to Markham, Ontario in the early 1980s. The current IBM Canada Headquarters is at 8200 Warden Avenue in Markham. It shares space with the IBM Toronto Software Lab. This state-of-the-art facility, opened in 2001, is focused on cutting-edge technology like Agentic AI. This new headquarters emphasizes collaboration and innovation. Interestingly, the previous head office at 3600 Steeles Avenue East was sold recently in August 2024.
