Didn’t someone say that Cologne is not only about the cathedral? The Skulpturenpark Kölngives you more than just a glimpse into the city’s art scene. It offers an oasis of tranquility amidst the urban hustle.

Here at the Skulpturenpark Köln, you can find the Huset sculpture. The Huset sculpture is part of a unique symbiosis of nature and art. This park spans approximately 35,000 square meters. That is nearly nine acres for those of us who think in football fields.

The Skulpturenpark Köln is located in the triangle between Zoobrücke, Konrad-Adenauer-Ufer, and Riehler Straße. It is easily accessible but feels worlds away from the city’s frenzy.

Imagine, back in 1997, Dr. Michael and Dr. Eleonore Stoffel had a vision. They wanted to create a space where contemporary sculpture could be experienced freely. The collector couple privately founded Skulpturenpark Köln. Their initiative has since gained national and international recognition.

The Skulpturenpark Köln features works by artists from Anish Kapoor to Heimo Zobernig. Every two years, the Stiftung Skulpturenpark Köln appoints an independent curator. This curator then organizes Köl Skulptur according to their conceptual ideas. Each production redefines the park using contemporary outdoor sculptures.

The non-profit Skulpturenpark Köln Foundation was founded in 2008. It continues the Stoffels’ project by securing the future of the park. It preserves it as a place for artistic dialogue and reflection. The Michael and Eleonore Stoffel Foundation finances this ambitious project. They also get proceeds from renting the foundation house. The city of Cologne provides further support as a cultural institution.

Currently, you can visit the Köl Skulptur #11 exhibition. It opened on June 23, 2024. Take your time to wander. The Skulpturenpark Köln is not just a park. It is a living, breathing museum. It is a testament to the power of art and nature.
