Beneath the unassuming facade of a modern building lies a beacon of faith. This is Husbykyrkan. It is a church with a vision as expansive as the community it serves. Husbykyrkan is more than just a building. It is a testament to the enduring power of community and the transformative nature of faith.

Husbykyrkan’s story began in the early 1970s. A small group felt a calling to share God’s love. They wanted to reach out in the new district of Husby. As the Järva area grew, so did their dream. Husbykyrkan was inaugurated in 1976. The church was built as a direct response to the expanding Järva area. In the year following its inauguration, the fellowship officially formed. It started with 48 members. Most members had Swedish backgrounds.

Since then, Husbykyrkan has evolved into a vibrant intercultural community. Today, it boasts around 290 members. These members come from diverse nations and backgrounds.

Architect Karl Erik Hjalmarson designed Husbykyrkan. The Stadsmuseet in Stockholm has designated it as “grönmärkt”. This means it has high cultural and historical value. The designation highlights its significance from historical, cultural, environmental and artistic perspectives.

Husbykyrkan identifies with the worldwide apostolic creed. It also aligns with the theological foundation of the Evangeliska Frikyrkan. This affiliation connects Husbykyrkan to a larger movement. They provide humanitarian aid. They work for human rights. They establish congregations. They train leaders. They equip people in various ways.

The church leadership guides the congregation spiritually. They focus on theology and teaching. They focus on vision and direction. They focus on member care.

Husbykyrkan operates with both a leadership team and a board. The congregation elects both. The leadership team addresses spiritual matters. The board manages practical affairs. These include property, finances, and staffing.

Husby itself has a rich history. Originally a rural farmstead in the early 19th century, the Swedish state acquired the land in 1905 for military use. Later, in 1949, it became part of Stockholm. Modern Husby emerged in 1972. It was part of the Million Programme. The Million Programme was a large-scale housing project. It was completed by 1977.
