Right here at Hurstville Oval, imagine the roar of the crowd. Picture Don Bradman facing a fearsome bowler. This multi-use sporting ground boasts a rich history. Hurstville Oval sits in Sydney’s southern suburbs. It has hosted cricket, rugby league, cycling, and football since its opening in 1911.

Hurstville Oval is home to the St. George Cricket Club. They have played here since 1921. The ground has a charming grandstand. It also features the Blackshaw Gould Pavilion. It is a must-visit for sports enthusiasts.

The St. George Cycling Club started competing here in 1906. They first used the grass. Later, they built a cinders track. Dunc Gray, an Olympic champion cyclist, was a member. He lived and worked just a kilometre from Hurstville Oval. St. George Cycling Club hosted national titles here in the 1950s. The club has had representation in every Olympic or Commonwealth Games cycling team since 1956.

The St. George Rugby Union Football Club used Hurstville Oval from 1928 to 1939. They returned from 1950 until 1988. Before 1928, they played at other grounds. The club produced 18 Wallabies during their time here.

The St George Dragons rugby league club first used the ground from 1921 to 1924. They came back between 1940 and 1949. Jack Lindwall set two club records at Hurstville Oval. He scored the most points and most tries in a match in 1947 against the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles.

Don Bradman, the famous Australian cricketer, played for St. George Cricket Club from 1926 to 1933. He played many games at Hurstville Oval. In 1931, about 10,000 people came to watch Bradman and Alan Fairfax play.

Hurstville Oval hosted Ryobi One-Day Cup matches in 2013-14. New South Wales defeated Western Australia here on October 13. Tasmania defeated Queensland on October 15. Since 2015, Cricket Australia XI has used it as a home ground in the JLT Cup.

The oval has a velodrome. The St. George Cycling Club uses it for training. Hurstville Oval also hosts WBBL matches.

Hurstville Oval is a valuable green space. Locals and visitors use it for leisure, soccer, school sports, and social gatherings. It also hosts community events. The ground was opened in 1899. It was redeveloped in 2000.
