Wow. Look at the huma eleven. This wasn’t always a modern shopping mall. Its story begins much earlier back in the 1970s. It started life as the Hurler Magazin a smaller retail space. The location in Simmering had a fascinating past. It sat on the grounds of the Kaiserebersdorfer Landwehr-Artilleriekaserne a former military barracks. The old barracks buildings are still around today. Can you imagine soldiers marching where shoppers stroll now?

In 1987 the Hurler Magazin transformed into a shopping center. It served the local community providing everyday necessities. Various anchor stores catered to local needs. Fast forward to 2012. The old shopping center needed a complete overhaul. They decided to modernize the entire place. Demolition of the old structure began in 2014.

The new huma eleven opened its doors on March 3 2016. Sixty stores restaurants and service businesses welcomed shoppers. By September 2017 construction was complete. The final result was 50000 square meters of shopping space. The mall features unique tranquil areas. These include impressive water features covering about 200 square meters. It’s a perfect place for a relaxing break from shopping.

Today the huma eleven is one of the most well-established shopping centers in Vienna. It attracts around 3.5 million visitors annually. It is easily accessible near the A4 motorway and Freudenau harbor. It even boasts 2000 parking spaces. It’s a bustling modern marvel built on a historical site. Its success lies in combining modern architecture with a family friendly atmosphere. The huma eleven truly is a modern shopping destination in the heart of Simmering.
