Founded in 1903 by Mother Mary Magdalena L Tate the House of God Church stands as a testament to faith and perseverance. Its origins trace back to Tennessee. Mother Tate’s powerful preaching led to numerous conversions. By 1908 the church held its first General Assembly in Greenville Alabama. Ministers were ordained and pastors appointed. Mother Tate became the Apostle Elder President and Chief Overseer. The House of God Church rapidly expanded. By 1916 it had spread across twenty states including the District of Columbia. In 1924 the House of God Church established its headquarters in Nashville Tennessee. This marked a significant milestone in the church’s growth and influence. The first administration’s theme was “Come into God’s House”. After Mother Tate’s death in 1930 Bishop Mary F L Keith became the second Chief Overseer. Her leadership saw the church expand further. She established the Keith Bible Institute and the House of God Home for Children. A sanctuary was erected at headquarters. Dormitories were later built. The church flourished spiritually and physically under her guidance. The theme of her administration was “Stay in the Faith and Doctrine”. Bishop James W Jenkins succeeded Bishop Keith in 1962. His administration focused on economic independence and church expansion. The Courtesy Welfare Program was created to help members in need. The church also received tax-exempt status. New churches were established in several states and a new headquarters complex was built. Bishop Jenkins’s theme was “Let Us Make Progress”. Bishop James C Elliott became the fourth Chief Overseer in 1990. His focus was on evangelism. He founded the House of God Academy and Bible College. The church expanded into Arizona Kentucky Mississippi and several foreign countries. The Old Headquarters Sanctuary was restored. Bishop Elliott’s theme was “Continuous Progress Through Evangelism”. Bishop Rebecca W Fletcher took over in 2004. Her administration emphasized global outreach. The theme was “Girdling the Globe with God’s Grace and the Gospel of Jesus Christ”. The House of God Church continues to grow and spread its message of faith worldwide. Its history is one of remarkable expansion and unwavering dedication to its core values.
