Did you know Matroosfontein is home to a church with a rich history? Holy Trinity Catholic Church has been a cornerstone of this community for nearly a century. Holy Trinity Catholic Church officially opened its doors in 1926. Yet it wasn’t until 1992 that the church was consecrated. This dedication marked a significant moment for the parish. Holy Trinity Catholic Church serves as a testament to the enduring faith of the community it serves. This vibrant parish is located on St. Dominic Street. Father Bibin Martin MSFS, the current parish priest, leads the congregation. He is supported by the dedicated Parish Secretary, Ms. Elna September. Her office hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Holy Trinity Catholic Church offers several Mass times throughout the week. Saturday Mass is held at 5:00 pm. Sunday Masses are held at 8:00 am and 10:45 am. Daily Masses are celebrated Tuesday through Friday at 8:30 am. The last Thursday of the month has an evening Mass at 7:00 pm with no 8:30 am Mass. The first Friday of each month has both an 8:30 am and a 7:00 pm Mass. Confessions are heard on Saturdays from 4:00 pm to 4:45 pm. Holy Trinity Catholic Church is more than just a place of worship. It is a hub of activity. It fosters a sense of belonging through various ministries and societies. These include the Legion of Mary, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVP), a youth group, altar servers, and Lay Dominicans. There are also liturgical dancers, a property management group, a hospitality group, ushers, and a fundraising group. The church’s choir, Soul Singers, and Music Ministry Group fill the church with joyous music. Prayer groups, Workers of Love group, and a gardening group provide opportunities for spiritual growth and community service. The Fransalian Associates and a Men’s Group offer further fellowship and support. Catechism classes are held on Sundays from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) also meets at the same time. Ms. Anthea Flanagan coordinates these programs. Holy Trinity Catholic Church has close ties with several local institutions. These include the Holy Cross Provincial House, Holy Cross Child & Youth Centre, Holy Trinity School, Marian High School, and St. Augustine School. These connections underscore the church’s commitment to education and community outreach. Holy Trinity Catholic Church continues to serve its community.
