Did you know that Holy Temple Church in Washington DC started with just 120 members? Founded in 1969 by Elder Weathers this church is a testament to faith and perseverance. Holy Temple Church wasn’t just a building it was a community. Elder Weathers left his job at the USDA to dedicate his life to this church. He was ordained in 1974. The church grew and flourished. Many found healing and spiritual growth within its walls. A remarkable feat the church building itself was paid for in just seven years. This speaks volumes about the dedication of its members. Holy Temple Church wasn’t just a place of worship. It was a hub for community outreach. In 1982 they established the Holy Temple Christian Academy. The Academy educated 120 students from kindergarten through eighth grade until it closed in 2005. This educational initiative demonstrates the church’s commitment to the community’s children. Bishop Weathers’s influence extended beyond the church walls. He established a prison ministry at the Lorton Correctional Facility in Virginia. He also hosted a radio broadcast The Good News for over 20 years. This program spread messages of hope and faith to a wider audience. Addressing a significant social issue Bishop Weathers spearheaded a Drug Outreach program. This program aimed to educate young people parents and officials about drug prevention. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to create a successful fashion line. He even authored a children’s book featuring Smarty the Drug Free Bear. This book aimed to promote drug-free living among children. Bishop Weathers’ ministry spanned decades leaving a lasting impact on many lives. He passed away on October 17 2010 but his legacy continues through Holy Temple Church. This church remains a vibrant center of faith community and service.
