Reflecting on the past, Holy Cross Catholic Academy first opened its doors in September 1986. It aimed to serve the western Woodbridge community. This Catholic high school is located in Vaughan, Ontario. Holy Cross, as it is often called, provides a Christ-centered education.

Holy Cross Catholic Academy celebrated its first graduating class in 1990. Archbishop Robert Clune blessed the building that same year on May 2. To mark the school’s tenth anniversary, a tree was planted at the front. You can still see the metal plaque commemorating this event.

In 1998, Holy Cross Catholic High School became a Catholic Academy. This change came about because of the Ontario government’s push to improve technical education. Today, Holy Cross continues to excel.

Holy Cross offers education for grades 9 to 12. The school is known for its commitment to academic excellence. In October 2020, the school had 992 students. Holy Cross prides itself on student achievement. In the 2022-2023 year, 93% of English students passed the literacy test on their first try.

Holy Cross Catholic Academy became an International Baccalaureate World School in January 2011. The IB program challenges students. It prepares them for post-secondary education.

Students can explore interests through extracurricular activities. Holy Cross offers many clubs. A Student Activity Fee covers Athletics, Team Sports, Clubs, and Awards.

The student population at Holy Cross Catholic Academy is diverse. Many students come from nearby elementary schools. These include St. Peter’s, St. Clement, San Marco, St. Margaret Mary, and St. Angela Merici.

Holy Cross is more than a place of learning. It is a community. It supports student growth. With its academics and the IB program, it remains a pillar of Catholic education in Vaughan.

Over the last 30 years, Holy Cross has a rich athletic history. They achieved regional championships in many sports. They have represented the York Region Athletic Association multiple times at OFSAA. They recently won gold in the Boys AA Soccer division.

Holy Cross partners with Woodbridge Sports Dome. This provides students access to a state-of-the-art sports complex. It features a turf soccer field and a basketball/volleyball court.

Holy Cross also runs three Specialist High Skills Major programs. These are Arts & Culture, Business, and Health & Wellness. The school offers a Technology program including Automotive, Communications Technology, and Cosmetology. Holy Cross provides a CO-OP program with community partners. The school is committed to preparing students for the future.
