Ho Ming Primary School is sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen. It is a government-aided co-educational primary school in Yuen Long District. The school’s address is 2 Tin Pak Road, Tin Shui Wai, Yuen Long, N.T.
Originally named Ho Ming Primary School, it was founded in 1970. Sik Sik Yuen sponsored it. In 1992, the school changed its name to Ho Ming Primary School Sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen. It moved to Tin Shui Wai. Finally in 2006, Ho Ming Primary School relocated to its current site.
Let’s delve a little deeper into the school’s history. Ho Ming Primary School was Sik Sik Yuen’s first sponsored primary school. In 1969, they were allocated a “firewood box” school in Kwun Tong. It opened in 1970. The school operated with morning and afternoon sessions.
By 1980, the school faced declining enrollment. It began to admit special education students. Nine years later, Ho Ming Primary School first implemented a full-day system.
In 1992, the original school had to close because of redevelopment plans. Luckily, Sik Sik Yuen was granted a new school in Tin Shui Wai. The school effectively moved that year. It became Ho Ming Primary School. It reverted to a half-day system. The afternoon school reopened two years later. Students had to transfer to other schools in Kwun Tong.
The school applied to separate the morning and afternoon sessions in 2002. They wanted to create a full-day school. During construction, student numbers in Tin Shui Wai decreased. This forced Ho Ming Primary School to reduce classes again. In 2006, the school moved to its present location. The morning and afternoon sessions combined. After 14 years, Ho Ming Primary School returned to a full-day system.
The school has a campus of 4700 square meters. It has 24 classrooms and special rooms. The school building project was linked to others in the district. These included the Hong Kong Christian Service Lee Chung Kaki College. Also, the Yan Oi Tong Tin Ka Ping College. Andbond Engineering built them all. Construction started in September 2004. Ho Ming Primary School opened in 2006. Only Primary One to Five students moved in at first.
The second-generation school building was at 11 Tin Ho Road. It was a flexible design from 1988. It had 30 classrooms and special rooms. Before being abandoned, it underwent expansions. These were part of the “School Improvement Program.” The original school closed in 2007 after the last Primary Six class graduated. The Education Bureau transferred it to the Vocational Training Council. It became the Youth College Tin Shui Wai campus.
The first-generation school was a “firewood box” school. It had 24 classrooms and some special rooms. It was next to Blocks 22-24 and a ball court. When the school moved in 1992, the Housing Department took over. The building was demolished with the other buildings. In 2000, it was rebuilt as the Oui Tong House.
The school supervisors have included Mr Chan Lap, Mr Lo Kwong Nin, and Mr Chan Chun Wei. Also, Mr Ng Wing Kan and Mr Leung Kam Wo. The principals of the morning school were Ms Lai Tit Shing. Also, Mr Ma Chi Keung and Mr Wong Yuk Fung. The principals of the afternoon school were Ms Lai Tit Shing, Mr Yee Yim Pui, and Mr Wong Yuk Fung. Also, Mr Li Kwok Wah, Mr Leung Pin Shing, and Ms Chong Oi Ling. The full-day school principals were Mr Ma Chi Keung, Mr Wong Yuk Fung, and Mr Ng Tsz Lui. Also, Ms Chan Yim Ling and Ms Tam Fung Ling.
