Founded in 2006, HKFYG Lee Shau Kee College is the second school in Tin Shui Wai sponsored by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups. Lee Shau-kee provided the funding. The first school was the HKFYG Lee Shau Kee Primary School.
HKFYG Lee Shau Kee College is a Band 1 secondary school. It’s located in Tin Shui Wai, Yuen Long District. The school uses English as the primary language of instruction.
The school’s motto emphasizes “Wisdom in Action”. It also highlights the “3-S”: Self-directed learning, Self-discipline and Self-efficacy.
The HKFYG Lee Shau Kee College has a comprehensive curriculum. For Secondary 1 to Secondary 3, students study core subjects. These include Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics. Science subjects include Integrated Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Humanities include Economics, History and Geography. Students also study Computer Literacy, Visual Arts, Music, and Physical & Health Education.
For Secondary 4 to Secondary 6, the school follows the New Senior Secondary Curriculum. All students take four compulsory subjects. These are Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics and Citizenship and Social Development. Students also choose two to three elective subjects. Options include Chinese Literature, Literature in English, and Chinese History. Other options are History, Geography, Economics and Tourism & Hospitality Studies. Business, Accounting & Financial Studies, and Information & Communication Technology are available. Science electives include Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Visual Arts, Music and Physical Education are also offered.
Each level from Secondary 1 to Secondary 6 has five streams. Each class has no more than 35 students. Students are grouped according to their elective subject choices.
HKFYG is committed to promoting youth development in arts and culture. The HKFYG’s Cultural Services Unit organizes over 500 a cappella training sessions and events annually. More than 300 secondary schools participate. Over 370,000 individuals have been involved in these activities. In 2016, the HK Arts Development Council presented HKFYG with the “Arts Education Award”.
The “Hong Kong International a cappella Festival” is one of HKFYG’s initiatives. The “a cappella Education Programme” is another. “HKFYG Hong Kong Melody Makers” is a further initiative. These programs nurture a cappella groups. They enrich the local cultural landscape.
HKFYG also organizes events like “HSBC x HKFYG Vocal Vibrato @ Shenzhen”. This event brings together young a cappella singers from around the world. It fosters cultural exchange through music. Performers from London, Vienna, Tokyo and Hong Kong participate.
