In 1988 a new chapter began. Paul and Jenny Daniel established His People Christian Church at the University of Cape Town. Their passion ignited a flame. Soon campuses buzzed with young Christians. His People Church quickly became a vibrant community. It was a place of faith and fellowship. The church’s growth was phenomenal. It fostered a strong sense of belonging among students and young adults.
His People Church wasn’t just about Sunday services. It was about nurturing faith. It was about building relationships. It was about making a difference in the lives of young people. The Daniels’ vision extended beyond the university walls. Their dedication laid a strong foundation for future growth and influence.
In the mid-1990s Nigel and Debbie Desmond answered God’s call. They moved to Grahamstown planting a Bible school. Almost accidentally Sunday services started. They faithfully built a spiritual family. His People Church expanded its reach. It touched the lives of students and community members alike at Rhodes University and Grahamstown.
Leadership transitioned through the years. Gareth and Taryn Lowe took over in 2000. Nigel and Debbie moved on planting a church in East London. Later the Lowes followed suit planting a church in Berlin. Tendai and Keryn Chitsike became senior pastors. Lester and Melissa Bhana served alongside them until 2014 when they too went on to plant a church in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. The church’s leadership remained committed to its mission. They focused on establishing Christ-centered Spirit-empowered churches.
His People Church’s name changed in 2016 and 2017. Most churches under its umbrella became Every Nation churches. This reflected its core values and the broader Every Nation family. But the spirit remained. The church’s ethos endured. Its key scripture remained ‘The people who know their God shall be strong and do great exploits’ Daniel 11:32. His People Church had a powerful impact. It nurtured leaders who went on to serve as pastors worship leaders and reformers across South Africa and beyond.
The church grew beyond its initial focus on young people. It evolved into a multi-generational and multi-racial family. It welcomed people of all ages and backgrounds. The church sought God’s presence in worship. It valued the Spirit of truth in preaching. It desired an open witness to its city and loving relationships among its members. His People Church’s story is a testament to faith resilience and unwavering commitment to its mission. It stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration a place where lives are transformed and faith is strengthened. It’s a legacy of impact that continues to grow. His People Church a community of faith built on a foundation of love and service.
