A bustling hub of life, Hing Wah Estate whispers stories of transformation. Hing Wah Estate stands as a testament to Hong Kong’s ever-evolving landscape. This public housing estate, nestled in Chai Wan, isn’t just a collection of buildings. It’s a microcosm of Hong Kong’s vibrant community. Hing Wah Estate is actually two estates. There’s Hing Wah (I) Estate and Hing Wah (II) Estate.

Hing Wah (I) Estate, located at 11 Wan Tsui Road, consists of three Harmony 1 style buildings. These were completed between 1999 and 2000. They replaced older resettlement blocks that were demolished in 1995. One of these newer buildings, Hing Tsui House, was originally intended to be a Home Ownership Scheme block. The government later decided to convert it to rental housing. Hing Wah (II) Estate, at 18 Wan Tsui Road, comprises seven “Old Slab” blocks. These were completed in 1976.

The two estates together house over 15,000 residents. Imagine the daily hustle and bustle. The shared experiences. The sense of community. In 2016, Hing Wah (I) Estate had a population of 7,526, while Hing Wah (II) Estate housed 8,351 residents. The buildings within Hing Wah Estate have distinct names. In Hing Wah (I) Estate, you’ll find Cheuk Wah House and May Wah House. In Hing Wah (II) Estate, the blocks are named Chin Hing House, Fung Hing House, Lok Hing House, Ning Hing House, On Hing House, Wo Hing House, and Yu Hing House.

Hing Wah Estate is more than just residences. It’s a place with a past. A place that has witnessed change and growth. During the Covid pandemic, May Wah House experienced a lockdown in February 2021. This event highlighted the challenges faced by communities during times of crisis. Hing Wah Estate is also part of Primary One Admission School Net 16. This means children living in the estate have access to multiple aided and government schools in the area. This underscores the estate’s role in supporting families and education.

Hing Wah Estate stands as a symbol of resilience and community. It reflects the dynamic spirit of Hong Kong. It’s a place where history and modern life intertwine. A place where thousands call home.
