Standing here in front of Hersby Gymnasium, it’s almost impossible to imagine that this grand building was once a simple farmhouse. It’s hard to picture a place where 1000 students now hurry to class, used to be a quiet dwelling surrounded by nature. But that’s exactly how it began – a straightforward farmhouse on Lidingö Island, a mere 6 kilometres from the heart of Stockholm. Time has, however, transformed this farm into a thriving symbol of education.
The school’s history dates back to 1913, when it was known as “Lidingö Läroverk.” The building bears witness to its long journey. It has witnessed generations of young minds pass through its corridors, filled with the promise of a bright future. Hersby is not just a place of learning, it fosters a strong sense of community and a dedication to openness, tolerance, and international understanding.
Today, the school proudly offers a diverse array of programs, including the popular Economics, Natural Science, Social Science, and Technical Science programs. Their classrooms, bright and modern, reflect the passion for knowledge and the desire to equip their students with the skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. The students have a say in their education, shaping the learning experience through their active participation in student councils.
Hersby Gymnasium is a testament to the power of education and its role in shaping a brighter future. It’s a place where young minds are encouraged to explore their passions, cultivate their talents, and contribute to the world in meaningful ways.
