Beneath the golden glow, do you feel the pulse of Green Square? Here we find ourselves before Here is Here. And Everywhere. Let’s explore this artwork together.

Here is Here. And Everywhere. is a series of four golden spheres. They respond to Green Square’s growth. The artwork connects people and places. It stands along the main road here.

The City of Sydney made sure creativity was key. The Green Square public art strategy ensured this. Amanda Sharrad curated and authored it.

Tobias Rehberger created this series. It includes seating, plants, and light. These elements create playful spaces. Visitors and locals can enjoy and connect.

But what’s the story behind these golden spheres? Each sphere lights up. It glows with the rising sun in different spots across the globe.

One sphere at Green Square Library Plaza. It lights up when the sun rises in Grasmere. Grasmere sits in the UK’s Lake District. Another piece at Woolwash Park. It glows when the sun rises at Irkeshtam Port in Xinjiang, China. The sculpture on Zetland and Defries avenues. It lights up at sunrise on Australia’s Heard Island. The work at Joynton and Zetland avenues. It connects to daylight hours in Tapon del Darien, Yaviza in Panama.

The lights even dim. They fade when the sun sets in those international locations.

Tobias Rehberger chose these places carefully. They represent the countries of origin for Green Square residents. Panama shows the varied communities living here.

Rehberger says viewing the sun in the Lake District. All while sitting in Green Square accents a commonality. It is typical of contemporary life in a positive way.

Each artwork has its own color scheme. It relates to its specific spot. But there’s a twist. A small part features an odd color. That color is also on the other three sculptures. This brings together colors from all the sculptures.

Here is Here. And Everywhere. acknowledges history and community. It addresses the site with humour. It connects us with different places. It shows us different views of the Sun. The Sun is essential to our lives.

Tobias Rehberger is an internationally known artist. He won the Golden Lion award at the Venice Biennale. He created a permanent installation in the Italian Pavilion cafe.

Rehberger makes engaging public artworks. They are colorful and invite participation. His art is influenced by 20th-century design. It also looks at multiculturalism.

So, as we stand here, consider the connections. Consider the light. Think about how Here is Here. And Everywhere. ties us to the world. It’s more than art. It’s a reminder that we’re all under one sun.
