Did you ever consider who would construct copper tents in a park? Here at Haga Parkmuseum, we uncover this fascinating tale. Haga Parkmuseum resides within one of the striking Koppartälten, or Copper Tents. These unique structures offer a glimpse into the rich history of Haga Park. The museum details the park’s evolution, its prominent figures, and the intriguing stories behind its buildings. Haga Park was Gustav III’s creation. His love for theater influenced the park’s dramatic design. The Copper Tents, envisioned by architect Louis Jean Desprez, were initially lodgings for Gustav III’s guards. They were designed to evoke the image of a sultan’s encampment, their facades dramatically facing the main lawns. A devastating fire in 1953 destroyed the original structures. Thankfully, they were meticulously rebuilt, with the facades completed between 1962 and 1964, and the remaining buildings restored in 1977. Today, the three Copper Tents house the Haga Park Museum, a restaurant, and the park office. They stand as a national monument, embodying Haga Park’s unique charm. Inside Haga Parkmuseum, you’ll discover more about individuals connected to Haga, including Gustav III and the famous troubadour, Carl Michael Bellman. Bellman’s music often celebrated Haga, a testament to the park’s cultural significance. Explore the museum, and then wander through the park itself. It is a place where nature and royalty intertwine, a beautiful and historical treasure right here in Stockholm.
