Has anyone ever told you about the ghosts of Gymnázium Na Zatlance? I haven’t seen any myself. But the sheer age of this place whispers of stories untold. Gymnázium Na Zatlance, here on Na Zatlance street, has been shaping young minds for over a century. It’s seen empires rise and fall, witnessed wars and revolutions. Yet, through it all, it has remained a beacon of learning. Gymnázium Na Zatlance is a public four-year gymnasium. It boasts sixteen classes and almost 500 students. It offers two educational programs: “Objevovat a rozvíjet” (Discover and Develop) and “ALT”. The “Discover and Develop” program focuses on nurturing students’ talents. It emphasizes foreign language acquisition. The “ALT” program, introduced in 2017, features block teaching, interdisciplinary connections, and a focus on personal and social development. Gymnázium Na Zatlance prides itself on its individualized approach to education. The school provides support for students with special needs. It offers intensive Czech language courses for non-native speakers. Beyond academics, Gymnázium Na Zatlance fosters a vibrant extracurricular life. Students participate in a variety of activities, from the “Zatláják” introductory course for first-year students, to biology field trips, and history-geography excursions. They can engage in debates, simulations of international bodies like the EU and UN, physics demonstrations, and film festivals. Gymnázium Na Zatlance offers diverse language options. English is mandatory. Students choose a second language from German, French, Spanish, or Russian. A third or even fourth language can be chosen as an elective from the 3rd year onwards. Some classes have enhanced French instruction. They include history taught in French and supplementary activities. There’s even an optional intensive German program. Native English and German speakers teach at the school. Students can prepare for international language certificates. They also have opportunities for study abroad programs.
