Why is God holding a star? Look up. We are standing before the Gud Fader på himmelsbågen, a towering sculpture with a fascinating story. This striking artwork depicts God standing atop a shimmering arch, placing stars upon it. You see the angel at the base? He’s handing more stars up to God. This sculpture wasn’t originally destined for Stockholm. It was a vision of the renowned Swedish sculptor Carl Milles. He conceived it as a peace monument after the formation of the United Nations. Milles imagined it gracing the park near the UN headquarters in New York City. Sadly, the project never materialized during his lifetime. Decades later, Milles’ student, Marshall Fredericks, resurrected the idea. In 1995, this awe-inspiring monument finally came to life here in Nacka Strand. Fredericks, even at the impressive age of 84, ensured Milles’ original vision took form. Today, the Gud Fader på himmelsbågen stands not only as a local landmark but also as a testament to peace and the enduring power of art to bridge time and distance.
