The path to the Grotta a S delle Colonne Confinarie begins along Provincial Road n.1, also known as the “del Carso” road. Locate the columns marking the boundary between Trieste and Duino-Aurisina. From there, a cart track winds westward through a pine forest towards a water tower. This track eventually intersects with a forest road marked by trail number 7. Follow this road towards Santa Croce. After a 500-meter gentle ascent, the road levels out briefly. It is at this point that you leave the road, turning left. Approximately thirty meters later, cross the low stone wall, and there you will find the entrance to the Grotta a S delle Colonne Confinarie.

This first shaft, devoid of concretions, leads to a second shaft, slightly offset to the northeast. A third, wider shaft follows, partially adorned with concretions and prone to rockfalls near its bottom. At the base of the second shaft, a passage opens into a larger pozzo, sculpted by rock formations and slick with moisture. A massive rock blade hangs overhead, a testament to the forces that shaped this underground world. The descent continues through a series of chambers, each with its unique character. The western branch narrows into tight, calcite-covered passages, while the eastern branch descends a dramatic 20-meter shaft.
