Brewing dreams since 1987. That’s the Great Lakes Brewery story. The Great Lakes Brewery began in Brampton. Bruce Cornish and four partners started it. They used malt extract to make an ale and a lager. These beers were sold in 1-liter plastic bottles. They targeted home retailers.

But after four years, money ran out. Then Peter Bulut Sr. stepped in. He bought the Great Lakes Brewery in 1990. Bulut Sr. switched to all-grain brewing. In 1991 he moved the brewery to Toronto.

Fast forward to 2009. Peter Bulut Sr.’s health was failing. His children, Peter Bulut Jr. and Anetta Jewell, took over more responsibilities. Together, they launched new beers. They also boosted marketing efforts. Sales increased at the LCBO. Bars and restaurants started noticing Great Lakes Brewery. The brewing team got creative. They experimented with flavors. They gave their beers wacky names. Project X nights showcased their new creations.

In 2010 Peter Bulut Sr. passed away. Peter Bulut Jr. became President and Chief Brewing Officer. The Great Lakes Brewery continued to evolve.

The Great Lakes Brewery stands out for its experience. It is one of Canada’s oldest independent breweries. For over 36 years, they have focused on quality. They provide the freshest beer possible. Their approach is personable and efficient.

All beers are brewed on-site. The Great Lakes Brewery brewpub has 20 taps. There’s always something new to try.

Non-beer lovers can rejoice. Great Lakes Brewery also has homemade spirits. They offer vodka and gin in cocktails. Whiskey is aging in barrels. It will be available in a few years.

Feeling hungry? Detroit-style deep dish pizzas are a must. Smash burgers are another popular choice. Try the octopus tostada for something unique. It features grilled octopus and peanut salsa.
