Can you imagine a school where over 35 nationalities come together? Right here, in the vibrant heart of São Paulo, stands Graded, the American School of São Paulo. Graded School first opened its doors on October 17, 1920. It started as a humble two-room schoolhouse on Avenida São João with just six students and two teachers. The school has grown significantly since its early days. Today, Graded boasts a sprawling 16.5-acre campus on Avenida Giovanni Gronchi, overlooking Paraisópolis in Morumbi. The current campus was built in 1961. Graded School provides an American-style education from pre-primary through high school. The Lower School even offers a Montessori pre-primary program. High school students have several diploma options. They can pursue an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, a Brazilian diploma, or the mandatory SACS-accredited American diploma. The school’s commitment to academics is evident in its diverse curriculum. Students can take Advanced Placement courses like AP Calculus AB and BC. While most classes are in English, Graded School also offers instruction in Portuguese, French, and Spanish. Did you know that over 95% of Graded’s graduating class goes on to pursue a 4-year degree within a year of graduation? That speaks volumes about the quality of education provided here. Beyond the traditional classrooms, Graded School offers impressive facilities. There are over 90 classrooms, eight computer labs, two soccer fields, two gyms, and four science labs. The libraries hold a staggering collection of over 50,000 volumes. In 2006, Graded School opened a state-of-the-art arts center. This building houses dedicated spaces for music, theater, and visual arts. Imagine aspiring musicians practicing in the orchestra and band rooms. Visual artists explore their creativity in the painting, drawing, and ceramics studios. There’s even a photography room with developing facilities. Graded School isn’t just a school; it’s a thriving international community. With students representing over 35 countries, it’s a melting pot of cultures and perspectives. Graded truly embodies the global spirit of São Paulo.
