Its location on Wisconsin Avenue NW once housed Suter’s Inn a popular hostelry frequented by prominent figures like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Imagine the conversations that must have graced those very grounds. The church’s origins however are rooted in serving the less fortunate. Founded to minister to the laborers and watermen of the Georgetown waterfront Grace initially held services in a modest wooden chapel.
But Grace’s commitment to serving the community goes far beyond its historical roots. The Georgetown Ministry Center GMC has been housed within Grace Church since 1987. This center provides invaluable services including counseling showers laundry facilities and assistance with housing and employment. It’s a beacon of hope in the face of adversity.
And there’s Grace’s Table a remarkable Saturday ministry. Volunteers prepare and share a hearty meal with those experiencing homelessness. It’s more than just a meal though. The church also played a significant role in assisting the many young people living on the streets of Georgetown during the 1960s.
