“A man-made marvel” That’s what I call Gorka Szczesliwicka. This isn’t your typical hill. It’s Warsaw’s highest point a testament to resilience and ingenuity.

Gorka Szczesliwicka isn’t a natural formation. It started as a rubble dump after World War II. Imagine mountains of debris a grim monument to destruction. Later it became a landfill. Trash was piled high. It wasn’t pretty.

But in the late 1960s things changed. The city covered the dump with earth. Szczesliwice Park blossomed. By the 1980s there was even a ski slope. It wasn’t nearly as tall as it is today though.

In 1997 Energopol Trade SA leased the resort. They added fourteen meters to its height. They built a chairlift. Gorka Szczesliwicka became a winter wonderland. A fully equipped ski center appeared.

Unfortunately conflict arose. The center closed in 2005. But the city took over eventually. The equipment and buildings remained. They are still used today.

The ski slope measures 9500 square meters. It uses a special mat. This mat improves slipperiness even without snow. A snow cannon helps too. It’s quite something to ski there.

The hill offers stunning views. It has a chairlift and a ski lift. It’s open year-round. It’s one of only three such sites in Poland. You can enjoy skiing snowboarding even tobogganing.

Gorka Szczesliwicka is more than a hill. It’s a symbol of Warsaw’s spirit. It’s a place where destruction was transformed into a winter playground. It’s a testament to human will and a lovely place to visit. Enjoy the view.
