Gorge lookout

Gazing out from George Phillips Lookout, you’re treated to a breathtaking panorama. The Grose Valley stretches out before you, a tapestry of nature’s artistry. George Phillips Lookout offers a unique perspective, distinct from its more famous neighbor, Govetts Leap. This lookout provides a view down the Grose Valley towards Mount Banks and Govetts Gorge. Almost directly below, you can spot Laws Lookout, clinging to the valley’s side. Across the valley, Mount Hay, Lockleys Pylon, and Flat Top stand in quiet majesty. To the northeast, the land curves into a horseshoe-shaped gorge. Along the cliff edge, you can glimpse other vantage points: Cripps Lookout, Boyd Lookout, and Pulpit Rock. The lookout is thoughtfully equipped with signage identifying these distant landmarks. A small shelter with a picnic table offers a place to rest and absorb the view. You can reach George Phillips Lookout via a short, paved 600m return walk from the Govetts Leap Lookout carpark. Alternatively, the Fairfax Heritage Walk, a 2.2km wheelchair-accessible path, meanders along the edge of a hanging swamp. This path connects Govetts Leap Lookout and the Blue Mountains Heritage Centre, offering another way to experience this remarkable vista.
